History
Sakae station, called Sakaemachi at the time, opened on November 15, 1957; 54 years ago (1957-11-15). It was a terminal station of the first subway line opened in Nagoya, the other terminal being Nagoya and the other station in between being what is now Fushimi. The new subway system replaced the electric tram which had run above ground.[1]
